Green Conflicts

It certainly seems that the global agenda is heavily focused on the Middle East in 2026, given the geopolitical tensions and the significant economic impact of oil prices. Reinforcing this view is the fact that COP 31 will be hosted in Antalya, Turkey.

However, the negotiations will be led by the Australians, even though the event is taking place on Turkish soil. In a busy year, sustainability remains a key issue – proving more relevant than ever – amidst the struggle for energy control in Europe and ongoing initiatives to generate solar power in Western Sahara for export to Europe via undersea cables.

In a somewhat subtle manner, the environment, through climate change, remains at the heart of global conflicts, reminding us that nature respects no borders; ironically, it divides a world already at the mercy of distorted views on international relations.
