Renewable and Clean

The entire debate related to forms of energy generation justifies the necessary clarity at a conceptual level to distinguish between the terms “renewable” and “clean”. Given the need, it is worth remembering that for decades we have been trying to reduce the use of fossil fuels, because in addition to being finite, they have negative environmental impacts with the emission of greenhouse gases and the emergency scenario of climate change.

However, not all clean energy sources are at the same time renewable, a situation well exemplified by nuclear energy, not forgetting the issue of radioactive waste and the safety of their process. On the other hand, concerning to the sources renewables are clean, but due to a possible level of CO2 emissions, their “cleanliness” may be questioned.

Consequently, for a near future less dependent on fossil fuels, it is necessary to invest in harmonizing the use of the two types mentioned, so that the energy transition can be achieved.
