COP28 – What is the status?

It is now in December 2023 that the Conference of the Parties (COP28) will be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. In a world scenario affected by wars, the climate issue takes up space again and stands out due to the agenda that the series of meetings has.

This time, the level of performance will be analyzed in relation to the goals set in the Paris Agreement, in 2015, at COP 21. This is the so-called inventory that every five years checks the individual goals of each country, the so-called NDCs (Nationally Determined Contributions), considering the expectation of moving towards a zero-carbon economy by 2050.

Consequently, the world is anxious about the need to contain global warming, a task that requires extreme dedication from the entire society, taking into account that according to a report from the World Meteorological Organization, the year 2022 had a global average temperature of 1.1ºC above the it was pre-industrial, a fact that is worrying given the intention of the Paris Agreement to preferably limit it to 1.5 ºC.
