Preparing for the Conference of the Parties – COP30 requires, in addition to the infrastructure of an event of this size, clear communication regarding the purposes that bring the world to the capital of Pará (Belém) in November of this year. What is at stake now is the operationalization of the developments of the Paris Agreement, the result of COP21, held in 2015.
In this context, we perceive the intention of holding meetings that make participants understand that the negotiation stages have been overcome and that, at the moment, we must focus on implementing actions centered on addressing climate change to limit the increase in the average global temperature to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
Clearly, it is an opportunity to remind ourselves that the conference is in fact “of the parties”, conceived to address an issue that affects society across the board, with decisions that have long-term impacts and that cannot be driven by the interests of only the twenty richest countries in the world.
