Free World?

The concept of “free world” usually covers the western part of the planet, where, in general, different market logics and political regimes were established in relation to the East. However, this term gained its power of synthesis during the second half of the 20th century, with the meaning of freedom coming to consider the existing level of development.

Within this vision, when we consider the environmental variable together with Sustainable Development as a global agenda, we will observe the mismatch in the prioritization between what is necessary for life to continue our planet and the actions of world leaders.

In summary, it is necessary to return to the fact that environmental issues do not “respect” political-territorial divisions. At a time when, ironically, problems arising from globalization are being discussed, what many still call the “free world” finds itself connected in various ways to the “rest” of the world, with climate change being one of the strongest symbols of this connection.
