According to PMI’s official website at https://www.pmi.org/pmbok-guide-standards/foundational/pmbok/sixth-edition, the PMBOK® Guide – 6th Edition will be available digitally on June 6th. September 2017 in English and 11 other languages. Translations in 11 languages will be available in print in October 2017. PMI members will be able to download copies in English on September 6th, 2017. The link displays the video with comments from Cindi Dionisio (Project Chair United States) and Dr. David Hillson, (Project Vice Chair United States). It should be noted that the acronym PMI stands for Project Management Institute.
During this video, an enlightening brief is provided about the changes applied for this 6th edition which include the first three sessions. In addition to this, there is a new chapter: the Role of the Project Manager which discuss the importance of putting these situations together to warn how to lead projects effectively. See some of the changes discussed.
Project Integration Management: There was a new added process called Project Knowledge Management. It is related to knowledge management and lessons learned, also to make sure that they have been made available to the whole organization.
For Project Scope Management, according to the PMI, there are many changes, but here we talk about the relationships between the project manager and the market analyst.
Concerning to the Project Quality Management, the Quality Assurance process was taken over and replaced by Manage Quality. He points out that most organizations do not have Quality Assurance as part of the project, they are actually outside the department called Quality Assurance.
Emphasize the role of the project manager in managing project quality.
The two PMI representatives in this video still comment on the renaming of two areas of knowledge:
– Renamed the area called Project Time Management due to the fact that you can not manage time. In that way, it changed to Project Schedule Management. With respect to Project Human Resource Management, it has shifted to Project Resource Management because there are different resources, not just people. Already for Project Communication Management, the word "communications" was added, removing “communication” (singular), recognizing the communication that appears in video format.
Project Risk Management: Another area of response called Escalate was added to this area, and scheduling for Program and Portfolio levels is sometimes required.
Project Acquisition Management: Shifts the stakeholder management view to stakeholder engagement. According to Mrs. Cindi Dionisio, we can not control the stakeholder but we can manage how to engage them.
The text posted here reflects comments exposed in the video of the link above, being translated directly from the PMI website.
We hope that with these changes, the profession of project manager contributes to the organizations and that there is growth and recognition of this function around the world.
