In the wake of global actions on solid waste management, several countries have ongoing efforts to address the problem. This week, our neighbor, Argentina has announced that it considers the creation of a Federal Agency of Waste Management.
Mr Rabino Sergio Bergman, Minister of Sustainable Development and Environment of Argentina, stated at the meeting held at the Technological Institute of Buenos Aires, “I call on legislators, academics and nongovernmental organizers to work together on a bill to create a Federal Agency of Waste Management that provides the professional and federal dimension “. The minister also commented that this agency will allow state policies with regional coherence and practices homologated with technological innovation.
Today, in Brazil, the Ministry of Environment deals with issues related to waste management with the Secretariat of Water Resources and Urban Environment. The Argentine attempt constitutes an interesting move to deal with the problem in the south america, but the Brazilian case has particularities that make the task a greater challenge. However, the way our neighbor treats the problem of waste must undoubtedly be observed.
