There is pain and hedonism

Avoiding pain and maximizing pleasure is perhaps one of our greatest obsessions, ranking alongside the desire to know where we come from and where we are going – to the point where unbridled hedonism turns against us. In a world where having matters more than being, suffering spreads amidst the horror of climate consequences and seemingly endless wars.

Pain arises when we see the fiercest animal become our victim and plant life reduced to a mere memory, as biodiversity is lost to the hollow priorities of humanity; for at least the last seven decades, man has left his mark on the planet in a more-than-voracious manner, stamping his imprint in a hostile and perverse way.

In this century, “sharing” has become a mantra chanted the moment we post something or rent a scooter, even as we insist on finding a cure for every pain. Our wounds are opened and closed as we sense a human regression, confronting the onset of conflicts that destroy that shared future.
