The achievements of our civilization imply environmental reactions that lead our species to reflect on the dimension and impact we have on our planet. Undoubtedly, human triumphs constitute milestones that remind us of progress, even if it has distanced us from the Earth.
By treating the globe as an abode full of challenges for our lives, we see nature as something to be conquered and, as if that weren’t enough, as a set of resources to be exploited to serve the will of man, who tries to make the planet an increasingly suitable place for his desires and pleasures.
Consequently, the disconnection that society has from the terrestrial environment contributes to us looking with an air of superiority, given the advancement of social sciences and all the technological apparatus. Considering that, as we reap the laurels of victories in the struggles against nature, the Anthropocene reveals the consequences of the conquests and the means used, showing that it is nature that possesses us.
